THE TRIMMINGS

The trimmings include all the productions in thread of any nature, it is a work that serves as an ornament, we find it: woven, braided or embroidered, in synthetic silk threads, metal or natural fibers: plant or animal.

There is a variety of trimmings according to its use, for example: cartisans, tiebacks, braids, tassels, cords, lace, fringe, edging, ribbon and pompon.

Unlike traditional looms, in passementerie the warp does not unwind by itself, it is necessary to turn the spools manually.

In Morocco, in the streets of the Medina, you can find young apprentices practicing the preparation of the thread spools.

The Moroccan trimmings is born of a heritage of Roman, Berber and Andalusian traditions, so it has always been present as an ornament in traditional clothing: from classic dressmaking to high fashion, and which sometimes makes all the beauty of the creation, it is also found in interior decoration: curtains, lighting fixtures such as lampshades, ceramic vases, gift items and small decorative objects such as key rings, candle holders, and gives an indispensable touch in traditional accessories such as belts, slippers, handmade jewelry or even modern industrial jewelry.
